Artist in Residence Program – Tuesdays

Creativity comes to life at our childcare centre through our inspiring Artist in Residence Program. This unique initiative brings an artist into our learning environment to work alongside children and educators, sharing their passion, techniques, and creative processes.

Whether it’s painting, sculpture, music, dance, or digital art, each week offers hands-on opportunities for children to explore different art forms, express themselves, and engage in meaningful, open-ended projects.

The presence of an artist sparks curiosity, encourages imagination, and supports creative confidence in every child. Children also gain insight into the cultural and personal stories behind the art, enriching their understanding of the world around them.

Bush to Bowl Indigenous Program – Fridays

Our childcare centre is proud to partner with Bush to Bowl, to offer a rich, hands-on cultural learning experience for our children aged 3-5 years.

Through the Bush to Bowl program, children connect with Aboriginal culture, Country, and native plants in a way that’s meaningful and age-appropriate.

Guided by First Nations educators and community members, children explore bush tucker gardening, storytelling, music, art, and traditional knowledge that has been passed down for generations.

This program encourages respect for the land, deepens cultural awareness, and fosters a sense of belonging and connection. It’s a unique opportunity for children to learn through nature, culture, and community in a way that celebrates Australia’s First Peoples.

    Parent & Community involvement

To truly feel a sense of belonging as a child is to feel a shared emotional connectedness between their immediate world including their family, their community and their educators. Community has many contrasting meanings to different people. At Terrey Hills ELC we have endeavoured to ensure that every child and family is supported and feels central to the hub of our community. At Terrey Hills ELC, we have proven success with fostering authentic community partnerships.

We have enjoyed sustained visits, excursions and incursions. Family involvement builds an important part of our educational program and relationships. We have regular visits from our families who are experts in their own fields or who love to share a hobby. When family members come in to share their occupation or interests with our children, we see a spark of awe, wonder and a captivating interest ignite in our children. We do have the best community here at Terrey Hills ELC.

    Learning Languages

Bonjour Babies is a fun and stimulating language learning program for our young children. It is designed to capitalise on the benefits of exposing children to a second language in their formative early years when the brain is hardwired to effortlessly and naturally acquire languages.

Research shows that early exposure to a second language leads to improved cognitive functioning (planning, problem solving, memory and performance) and superior reading, writing, analytical and even social skills.

    All Weather Play

At Terrey Hills ELC, we believe that rain, sun or wind shouldn’t stop a child’s sense of wonder. Our all-weather play approach encourages children to explore, learn and enjoy the outdoors in every season — building resilience, creativity and a deep connection to nature.

Come rain or shine, our children are out and about in our beautiful outdoor environment, engaging in meaningful experiences that enrich their understanding of the world around them. We see powerful learning happening in these natural spaces every day.

    Paddock to Plate and Sustainability

Everything that we need for our survival and wellbeing relates directly to our natural environment. Sustainability is educating people about the environment, how systems operate and what we need from the natural world to ensure our survival. Sustainability and the Natural Environment is an important aspect of our learning program. We encourage the children to learn about sustainability by providing them with everyday experiences and exploration within their learning environment. Terrey Hills ELC has a Commitment to Sustainability which includes:

    • Recycling Program
    • Environmental Discussions
    • School Readiness Roles
    • Educator Roles
    • Community Engagement
    • Food Waste Management
    • Conservation Practices

At Terrey Hills ELC, we believe that we have the responsibility to make sustainable education a part of everyday practices, rather than a topic or theme to consider for a short time. It is embedded with our learning program and curriculum. Sustainability education enables educators and children to promote a sense of responsibility, show respect for the natural environment, be active participants and bring about enquiry and social change.
